Amasra is one of the most beautiful villages on the Black Sea coast. Located on a peninsula divided into two islets, it is a popular destination for Turks during the summer. The water is beautiful, the atmosphere soothing, the landscapes are superb. Founded in the 12th century BC, the city is named after a Persian princess, Amastris, and occupies the site of the ancient Sesamos, founded by the Mimesians in the 6th century BC. The city passed from Roman to Byzantine domination, during which the citadel was built. There is a direct connection between Amasra and Istanbul or Ankara, frequent to Safranbolu and to the beaches of Bozköy, Çakraz or Akkonak.
