In antiquity, Aydın, called then Tralles, is founded by Greeks from Argos and Thrace. Submitted to several conquerors, including Alexander the Great, the city is experiencing a period of economic boom during Roman domination. Destroyed by an earthquake, rebuilt by Auguste, which is integrated into the Byzantine Empire until 1282, but is officially under Ottoman control only in 1403, under the name Aydın. During its occupation by Greek troops, they burnt them at the end of the War of Independence, so it is a city that is not very old. It is central, well served and convenient to visit the site of Nyssa.
