At 65 km from Konya, after a sublime road appears Karaman. Called Larende in Antiquity, the city passed under the control of Karaman, known in Turkish history for having, for the first time, officially imposed Turkish as a state language in 1277. The small rebel kingdom held out against the Ottomans who unified Anatolia until the reign of Sultan Mehmed I Çelebi (1413-1421). Mosques, mausoleums (türbe), han, fortress, bridges, fountains and hammams are all traces of this rich past, scattered throughout the city. The small archaeological museum highlights the different periods. Be careful, in winter, snow and ice are frequent.
