Begun in 1967 and completed in 1987. Architects Hüsrev Tayla and M. Fatin Uluengin opted for a neo-Ottoman style inspired by the great works of architect Sinan (Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, Blue Mosque in Istanbul). The mosque features four 88-metre-high minarets and a vast central dome, supported by four half-domes. It can accommodate up to 24,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest mosques in the country. Its architecture combines traditional Ottoman elements with modern construction techniques.
