We lied to you, Rapa is not the end of the world! 90 km south-east of Rapa, Marotiri, also known as the Bass islets, consists of a string of four small administratively inconvenient lands attached to Rapa, rising from the Pacific Ocean at 27 92°S and 143 43°W. Presumably discovered in 1800 by the English navigator George Bass, these uninhabited islands, separated from each other by a distance of 1.5 to 3 km, emerge from a volcanic platform submerged at a depth of 100 m, extended over a diameter of about 5 km. Their humid temperate climate prevents the development of any form of vegetation. It is still unlikely that you will have the chance (or the misfortune) to survey these mysterious lands..
