Located at 1 100 m above sea level, this city, the administrative centre, lives in corn, coffee and tobacco. This is the Ngoni region, which participated in the Maji-maji rebellion in 1905, whose head gave its name to the city. In their history, Ngoni had already fiercely fought against the Maasaï, when they conquered much of the current Kenya and Tanzania and against the Hehe of Chief Mkwawa in the Iringa region. Their traditional house has the shape of a large dome.On the Piste Bay track, 1898 km from Thought, the Benedictine abbey of Peramiho was established by the Bavarian Benedictine monks in. The monks took an active part in the development of the region: School, learning, renowned hospital throughout the country…Long neglected by the central power, Thought was recently placed on the map of the country thanks to an ambitious project of the road and rail corridor between the port of Mtwara and Nyasa Lake which will necessarily pass through the city. The aim of this new link is to develop trade with Malawi and Mozambique.
