Mbamba Bay is the southernmost Tanzanian port on Lake Nyasa. This explains the regular transit of Mozambicans and Malawians. An immigration office is therefore open here and ensures that there are no waves of unwanted immigration... Otherwise, the place is still a small paradise isolated from all tourist traffic. The traveller will find here a haven of peace ideal for a prolonged halt, while waiting for the ferry to come. The region is nowadays isolated and rather underdeveloped. Apart from Mbamba Bay, the small fishing ports have no regular links with the outside world apart from the MV Songea ferry.
