IGELEKE ROCK PAINTINGS

A large prehistoric fresco, similar in style to the Kondoa rock paintings, is found in the immediate vicinity of Iringa, on a spectacular site. The ochre drawings depict human figures, an elephant, a leaping elk and a giraffe hiding in the tall grass. There are so few visitors that it feels like discovering Lascaux. This is an easy and interesting tour of the town involving a short but steep walk from the car park, it takes 5 hours for the tour from Iringa and takes a guide.
