Travel Guide Bechar

After 1962, the capital of the Saoura, a stopover on the Oran-Mali axis, lost since 1962 Columbus, the part of its name that celebrated the memory of an officer explorer. Built on a slope of Jebel Bechar, at 780 m altitude, the city benefits from the proximity of mineral deposits and its position at the crossroads of several Saharan routes between the High Guir, Tafilalet, the oases of Saoura, Touat and Gourara, Mali and Mauritania.The city itself is of fairly recent creation and one discovers a certain modernity in its streets drawn to the cord. In the center, we survey the old city, in the east the popular and populous district of Debdaba, in the south Bechar Djedid ("the big one") called formerly Bidon II. The palm grove, along the wadi, is gradually withering away.
