It was the Bey of the city of 1708, Bey Bouchelaghem, who had this mosque built. But when the Spanish took back the city in 1732, they had a guard tower built in its place. When Oran was finally released from the Spanish yoke in 1792, the bey Mohamed el Kébir had the mosque rebuild. After 1831 she served as a military store for the French army until 1844, where she was transformed into a church. Today, the building is once again a mosque and was renamed "Ibn Obeida" in 1989.
