Built in Jincheng in 1812, in memory of the mother of the governor general of Chechiang province, and resident of Kinmen Chiu Liang-Kung, a naval officer of the Qing Dynasty, this beautiful arch is one of Kinmen's historic sites. These arches, called in China Paifang, mark the entrance to a city and pay homage to local heroes, much like our triumphal arches. It is a pity, however, that the surrounding buildings are not as delicate as the arch.
