Also known as the Palace of the Heavenly Queen, this temple, built on Makung Island, dates back to 1592, making it the oldest temple in Taiwan dedicated to Mazu, the sea goddess. But the current structure is much more recent: it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times during the conflicts that have engulfed the region. Looted by Japanese pirates and destroyed by the Dutch in the 17th century, its history has been eventful. However, his woodcuts and his very delicate architecture have made him famous. A real little gem.
