PARC SHOUSHAN
Shoushan, or Longevity Mountain, overlooks the city. Covered in forest, it is an ideal refuge for squirrels and birds. Several excursion trails through the forest offer beautiful views of the coastline. On the eastern side of the hill, the Yuanheng temple, built in 1679, is the guardian of three large representations of the golden Buddha. At Shoushan's highest point (355 m) stands the Martyrs' Mausoleum. To the south-east of the hill, Kaohsiung Zoo, less impressive than Taipei Zoo, boasts 100 rare species of animal.
