SHENG AN TEMPLE

Dedicated to the "Queen Mother of the West", the temple of Sheng An is one of the most important in the region. This deity is one of the most important in Taoist mythology: residing in the western marches of China, she married the Emperor of Jade (the disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun, one of the three pure ones, an emanation of the Tao). This important marble building can accommodate up to 2,000 people during pilgrimages: the occasion for a colourful and extravagant feast. The nearby temple is dedicated to the "Golden Mother", a saint with healing power.
