Nong Wang temple is famous for its imposing 80-metre-high chedi, the Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon. The temple was founded in 1789, but the chedi was built later, in the early 1990s. The temple is still active and houses a large number of monks and novices. The chedi has 9 storeys, in homage to King Rama IX, and boasts remarkable architectural details. The top floor offers a superb view of Lake Kaen Nakhon and the city.
