HUA LAMPHONG - BANGKOK CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION
Read moreOpened in 1916, this was the city's main railway station. It is gradually being phased out in favor of the new Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station in Chatuchak. At the time of our visit in June 2023, only a few local trains were still running (to Don Mueang, Ragsit and Ayutthaya). It remains to be seen how this historic site will be converted (museum? shopping center?). A new page is being turned!
BANG SUE GRAND STATION
Read moreBangkok's new modern railway station, also known as Bang Sue Grand Station, is now Southeast Asia's largest, with 26 platforms! The imposing new station replaces the historic Hua Lamphong station, located close to the historic center and Chinatown. All trains now depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat. To get there, get off at Chatuchak MRT station, or Bang Son (Light Red Line) or Chatuchak (Dark Red Line) SRT stations.
