The present castle occupies the location of a fortress built in the Middle Ages with the aim of controlling passage to the Sioule valley. Built around 1200, it was completely refurbished by the Marquis de Pange, a recipient of the fiefdoms of Châteauneuf and Saint-Gervais in August 1767. Then again modified by its various owners of the th century, including Eugène Talon, member of Parliament for Puy-de-Dôme. Today, he is private and unfortunately not visiting.
