High castle with a beautiful view, a seigneurial dwelling and a Romanesque chapel constitute the vestiges of the original building
Château du Haut-Barr rises to an altitude of 470 metres. Perched on three rocky outcrops separated by a moat, it offers a fine panoramic view over the plain. First mentioned in 1123, it has undergone several alterations. The earthquake of 1356 caused its first damage. The Thirty Years' War was the final blow. What remains of the original building is a seigneurial dwelling and a Romanesque chapel. Today, access is via a Renaissance gateway built in 1583, which opens onto a small square just in front of the chapel.
