PATTINI DEVALE
This temple is dedicated to Pattini, the goddess of Chastity, healer of diseases, and one of the four protective deities of the Tooth relic. She is the goddess most revered by Sri Lankan peasants, as she is invoked during periods of intense drought or famine. The origins of the temple are unknown. All we know is that it is at least four centuries old, as it is mentioned in the writings of Robert Knox, taken prisoner by Rajasinghe II in 1658. It is based on the traditional Kandyan structure, rectangular in shape with a typical roof.
