La visite et la promenade du piton de la fournais depuis le pas de Bellecombe sont incontournables. En revanche, le passage à l'bservatoire est clairement inutile. Pas d'accès à l'intérieur et pas de vue particulière pour le touriste lambda... Un lieu scientifique pour les scientifique uniquement...
