Presents the works of Jakob Soklič, a priest in Slovenj Gradec from 1933. The museum also presents furniture, paintings and sculptures... A sort of Ali Baba's cave, this collection is due to the great work of collectors operated by Soklič. It highlights objects that bear witness both to the sumptuous past and to everyday life in Carinthia. Beautiful room on the predominance of local crafts in the economy of the region. A play is also devoted to the work and legacy of Fran Ksaver Meško (1874-1964), a local poet and playwright.

Natural site to discover

From the summit, the valleys of the Miža, Mislinja, Drava and Savinja can be identified. On a clear day, the Triglav and Grossglockner (Austria) become visible. The church consecrated in 1602 by the Bishop of Ljubljana Tomaž Hren and erected at an altitude of 1,680 m holds the country's altitude record. By road about 20 kilometres southwest of Slovenj Gradec. Via the hiking trail, ask at the information office to reach it and bring a map. The region is also a small paradise for hikers and mountain bikers.

VODRIŽ CASTLE (VODRIŽ GRAD)

In Gothic style, it briefly belonged to the Habsburgs before passing into the hands of owners who were less and less scrupulous about its upkeep. It was here that the famous UN-sponsored international plastic arts exhibitions were held in 1966, 1975, 1979, 1985 and 1991. The first floor features a collection of African art. On the second floor, the focus is on works by local sculptor Franc Bernecker and painter Jože Tisnikar. In the gallery's atrium, Guillaume Apollinaire is seen by Ossip Zadkine. HUGO WOLF'S BIRTHPLACE

What could be more normal that the birthplace of the composer Hugo Wolf became the seat of the music school! Born in 1860, the musician made the town proud by freely drawing inspiration from Schubert's work and proposing an innovative style, the lied. The house where the artist was born is worth seeing for its beautiful conservation but also for the beauty it exudes. Wolf's collection of objects that have belonged to him is quite modest and may disappoint.

CHURCH OF SAINT LISBETH (SV. ELISABETE)

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The nave and two stained glass windows are of Romanesque origin. Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles have transformed the oldest building in the city dedicated to the niece of Aquileia's patriarch Berthold, Count of Andech. The pictorial works are by two local Baroque artists, Franc Michael Strauss (1667-1740) and Franc Andrej Strauss (1721-1782). The baroque altar was designed by Janej Jakob Schoy, a sculptor at the court of Graz. Not to be missed!
