RIHEMBERK CASTLE

This large medieval castle, itself built on the foundations of a prehistoric fort, stands on the left before arriving at Branik from Sežana, on the foothills of a panoramic hill. Built in the 13th century, it is the oldest and largest of the Primorska castles. It was once owned by the Habsburgs. One of the towers also contains a large colony of bats. Abandoned since the middle of the 20th century, its renovation is currently being completed and it is possible to visit it on weekends in spring and summer.
