Just 3 km west of Kranjska Gora, wedged between the ski slopes and the road to Italy, lies the small Zelenci nature reserve. Pretty paths, some with wooden footbridges, allow you to discover the region's exceptional flora. After a 10-minute walk, you come to a small lake. The crystal-clear waters leave you pensive. A wooden observatory allows you to watch, in silence, the various colonies of birds on the lake.

At the end of the valley, the refuge awaits you. You'll never tire of gazing at the sloping summit of Jalovec (2,645 m). Nearby is the Nadiže waterfall, the first source of the Save River. The waters disappear and reappear at Zelenci, the official birthplace of the Save, which joins the Danube at Belgrade in Serbia.

A number of hiking trails lead to the Vršič pass (1,611 m) or the Jalovec summit (2,645 m). Please note that these routes are for experienced hikers only. Several passages are exposed.

In the attic, cabinet-making equipment and linen looms. In the basement, an art gallery presenting Josip Vandot (1884-1944), the local child, creator of the character of Kekec, the shepherd.

ALPINE MUSEUM OF SLOVENIA

Museums

The permanent exhibition is based on the history of the museum, but also on the dangers and joys of mountaineering. Rewarded with the Živa Prize for the best Slavic museum in 2017, we can't say that this prize is usurped! Indeed, the permanent exhibition is structured around several thematic rooms that are very well documented and accessible to all types of public. Very complete development on mountain fauna and flora. The museum offers several additional activities: simulating a night in a bivouac or how to react to a storm in the mountains.

JASNA LAKE

Natural Crafts

A superb alpine lake which is one of the most photogenic in the country. It must be said that the reflections of the snowy peaks of the Julian Alps on its crystalline water are breathtakingly beautiful! Its surface area exceeds 2 ha. A statue of Zlatorog, the chamois from the popular legend preferred by Slovenians, watches over the site. New infrastructures have been built around the lake to increase tourist activity: beaches, supervised bathing areas, diving area, fishing area, etc. A must-see!
