Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is a lively, green city that combines the charm of a small capital with the stature of a major European metropolis. The city as we know it today, with its riverbanks, picturesque bridges and market, was shaped by the famous architect Jože Plečnik. Sights worth seeing include the Plečnik House, which houses a museum dedicated to the architect; the National Gallery, which houses the largest collection of works of art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century; the Central Market, where the people of Ljubljana like to meet; the Dragon Bridge, the symbol of the city; and Ljubljana Castle, which offers a panoramic view of the city. Ljubljana is also renowned for its alternative scene and summer festivals. With its many green spaces and the Ljubljanica River, the city offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor relaxation. Ljubljana's gastronomy is also not to be missed, with traditional dishes such as fried chicken legs with buckwheat. Ljubljana is a great city to live in, with plenty of activities to suit all tastes.
