OLAER SPRING RESORT

Natural site to discover

Located less than a fifteen-minute drive from downtown GenSan, the Olaer Spring Resort is not strictly speaking a resort, but rather a sort of leisure park featuring a network of warm spring-water pools, linked by canals and ideal for swimming. It's best to come early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the air is cooler. All around, bamboo and nippa cottages are available for rent. Families love to gather here to share a picnic.

PINEAPPLE PLANTATION

The General Santos region is highly agricultural, with an abundance of crops. Twenty kilometers from the city center lies Polomolok, at the foot of Mount Matutum. This is one of the most prosperous towns in the region, and home to the largest pineapple plantation, covering 18,000 hectares. If you've always believed that pineapples grow on trees, this is the tour for you! In just one hour, you'll get an overview of the industrial cultivation (more than 60% is destined for export) of this sweet, delicious fruit.

GLAN MUNICIPALITY

Site of archaeology crafts and science and technology

Sarangani province abounds in rivers and lakes. To the south-west of General Santos, some 80 kilometers away (an hour by bus from the KCC Terminal), lies the municipality of Glan, with its typical colonial houses. It is one of the oldest towns in Mindanao. On either side are superb white-sand beaches. They are bordered by coral reefs and turquoise waters, making them ideal for swimming. Gumasa Beach is one of the most beautiful, earning it the nickname "Boracay of the South". It is little frequented.

Every morning in Sarangani Bay, fishermen unload their goods. Some have just spent weeks at the edge of Indonesian waters. They carry tuna and other spectacularly large fish on their shoulders. The best are exported to Japan for the famous sashimi. The market's traders are bustling with activity. an average of 300 tons of fish are landed every day. Over 20,000 people work in what is one of the world's largest tuna fishing ports.

MOUNT MATUTUM

Natural site to discover

It dominates the Socsksargen region (2,293 m), in South Cotabato, around thirty kilometers from General Santos. Covering an area of 13,500 hectares, this former volcano has long since ceased to be active. Today, it is a popular destination for hikers. The trail starts in the municipality of Tupi, thirty minutes from General Santos. It takes between eight and ten hours to walk from its base. The vegetation is dense and the view from the summit (if it's not foggy) is superb.
