Located an hour by boat from Romblon, Sibuyan is the wildest, most mountainous and still least developed of the province's islands. It is nicknamed the "Galapagos of Asia" due to its ultra-wild and unspoilt nature; 33% of the island is covered by primary forests. The water in its rivers, notably the Cantingas, is considered one of the purest in the world. The forests are lush and the waterfalls impressive, such as those at Cataja. Mount Guiting-Guiting, the island's highest peak at over 2,000 metres, completes the picture of paradise. Sibuyan is definitely a magical island for nature lovers. The main activity of the island's inhabitants (around 64,000 for 445 km2) is woodworking and the rattan industry. There are many species of tree, including narra, mahogany, yakal andiron wood , known as "tiga", which is found only on this island. A polytechnic college offers courses in woodworking. There is a small tourist office in Magdiwang's main square.
