This Pacific island of 1,512 km² and 270,000 inhabitants, located northeast of Legazpi and the Mayon volcano, is a dream destination for adventurers and surfers. It is known as " The Land of the Howling Winds ". Situated directly in the path of typhoons from the Pacific, the island's east coast is renowned among experienced surfers for its "Majestics" wave, which can reach 10 m in height, on Pururan Bay beach. For beginners, it's also possible to practice on smaller waves (1 m to 2 m), notably at Coconut Point beach, Twin Rocks near Igang. The best season for surfing starts in July and ends around November. This is also the time of year for typhoons, which can be very violent.
