KHUDUU ARAL VALLEY

The valley runs along the Kherlen River, 1,300 m above sea level. This is where the site of Ikh Aurag is located, which is said to have housed a palace of Chinggis Khaan. It would be also at this place that would have been completed The Secret History of the Mongols. A large monument was erected there in 1990, to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the writing of this classic of Mongolian literature.

Many tombs are also visible in this plain. Some of them date back to the Stone Age and are protected since 1998.
