SHINRAVJAALIN MONASTERY

This monastery was founded in 1757, when its seven temples housed up to 2,000 monks. It was almost entirely destroyed in 1937, and the monks were executed or forcibly returned to civilian life, as in the rest of the country during the communist era. The monastery was never rebuilt: today only two ger remain, transformed into temples, but religious activity has nevertheless resumed and its ruins can still be seen.
