80 km northeast of Al-Bayda and 30 km after El-Athrun, you arrive in Derna along a Plateau to the drier vegetation, where you cross here and there herds led by shepherds. The road runs through a magnificent sea, do not hesitate to stop when it is possible. The arrival in Derna, a town of 120 000 inhabitants, is characterized by a large perimeter area where a whole new residential area of more than a thousand houses must be built. Then we go to an old, pretty old quarter with its facades of collective buildings launched by the sea air. This coastal urban landscape does not augur well for the charm of the old shopping town in the Mediterranean atmosphere. Derna is located at the foot of a plateau that marks the end of Jebel Akhdar.
