The Matriz Square (from its official name XV de Novembro Square) bears the marks of a past that is still very present today in the historical center of Manaus. The links of the "matriz" square with the history of the capital of Amazonas began in 1695. Shortly after the foundation of the city of Manaus, the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição - the "matriz" - was started by the Carmelite missionaries. The clock in the square is 300 years old. A large winding staircase leads up to the cathedral, which is half hidden by tall trees.

Depuis août 2015, elle est en travaux pour plusieurs mois... On arrive à apercevoir sa beauté depuis le bus, en arrivant dans la ville, ou bien entre les interstices des tôles du chantier... Donc pour l'instant inaccessible. Quant aux stands d'artisanat qui l'entouraient, ils ont été déplacés sur la 7 de Setembro, pas loin du Camelodromo.
