The Icoaraci district, near Belém, is a popular stop-off point on river trips around the small islands that dot the river around the capital of Parà. This is the "ceramics district", as in ancient Athens. Doca Leite and the other craftsmen in her store produce all kinds of stylish ceramic pieces. This artisanal factory perpetuates the art of Marajoara ceramics, made from white clay. The pottery elegantly reproduces the native Marajoara tradition.
