PRAÇA DA INDEPENDÊNÇIA

The Praça da Independênçia, with its English locomotive, is a concentrate of the city's history. It reminds us of the importance of Great Britain in the local economy in the 19th century. The construction of the square began on May 15, 1915 and was inaugurated on December 24, 1917, under the administration of Eugênio Cunha. It has undergone many restructurings. Between the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, it was resurfaced and a Portuguese mosaic floor with motifs from the Kadiwéu indigenous culture was installed.
