If you want to visit all the Brazilian missions (less spectacular than those in Argentina or Paraguay), Santo Ângelo may be a good choice as the village is close to the remains of the Brazilian missions of São João Batista and São Lourenço Mártir. Santo Ângelo is a small, somewhat sleepy town, whose economy is based on agriculture. There are a few interesting buildings that allow you to soak up the local atmosphere, such as the "angelopolitan" cathedral. However, it may be better to sleep in the village near the ruins of São Miguel das Missoes (on BR 285), the most spectacular.
