Sao Joaquim, 288 km from Florianópolis, is a city in the mountains, very popular for its winter vacation. It is considered the little Switzerland of Brazil. To get there, one passes through Tubarao and then climbs up to 1,300 m on the splendid Serra do Rio do Rastro road, a 55-km-long stretch of impressive mountain switchbacks. The Brazilians can thus confront the winter. Temperatures can drop below -10°C. The best apples in the country are produced here. The hotel capacity of the city is not sufficient to manage the strong regional tourist attraction in winter. It is therefore important to make reservations during this period.
