Housed in a 19th-century townhouse with a façade covered in 18th-centuryazulejos, the São Luís Museum of Visual Arts was designed to accommodate pieces from the Museu Histórico e Artístico do Maranhão. Works from various periods can be seen here: paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures by renowned artists such as Miguel Veiga, Dila, Antônio Almeida and Newton Sá. The museum's collection includes oil paintings, drawings, prints, tiles and sculptures by Maranhão artists.
