CAPELA DE SÃO JOSÉ DAS LARANJEIRAS

The chapel of São José das Laranjeiras is a small church from the early 19th century, which was part of a large property of a "coronel". Restored in 1981, it was originally built at the request of Commander Luiz José Gonçalves da Silva and was flanked by a main house and an annex housing workers. After passing through the hands of several owners, it was acquired by the Archdiocese of Maranhão in 1938.
