Small church part of a large colonel's estate, passed through several owners
The chapel of São José das Laranjeiras is a small church dating from the early 19th century, which was part of the large estate of a "coronel". Restored in 1981, it was originally built at the request of Commander Luiz José Gonçalves da Silva. It comprised a main building and an annex housing workers. After several changes of ownership, it was acquired by the Archdiocese of Maranhão in 1938.
