The TAMAR project brings together ecologists and fishermen, with a common goal of saving sea turtles in Brazil
Sea turtles in Brazil have suffered particularly from anthropic predation and the degradation of sea waters and the marine environment. The TAMAR project, which covers the entire Brazilian coastline, has been a success, bringing together ecologists and fishermen with the common aim of saving the turtles. This is an added attraction when travelling to Arembepe, which is closer to Salvador than Praia do forte. A few turtles live in the tanks, where visitors can watch them being fed by technicians every day at 4pm.

Smaller than Praia Do Forte, this site of protection of sea turtles is much more loan of Salvador and you can get there with the city's bus (marked Monte Gordo or Arembepe or Itacimirim). Close you can visit the hippie village where artists live with comfort (electricity, TV) in original houses built of wood. Also enjoy the beach at low tide but beware of pebbles because it is open sea.
