PONTA DO HUMAITÁ

In the lower town(cidade baixa), right next to the Forte de Monte Serrat, you can admire the majestic sunset and panoramic view of the town from the Ponta do Humaitá point. Here you'll find the Monte Serrat church, a small lighthouse and a number of old houses. You can understand part of the town's origins by seeing this old ^16th-century church and a Portuguese fort, set up to protect Brazil's first capital from foreign attacks by the Dutch and French.
