Funicular railway linking the upper and lower towns, thanks to a small tramway that descends or rises almost vertically

Like the Elevador Lacerda, the Plano Inclinado Gonçalves funicular also provides a link between the upper town (Praça da Sé) and the lower town (Comércio), thanks to a small tramway(bondinho) that descends or rises almost vertically. Sensations guaranteed! As with the Elevador Lacerda, although this trip helps to illustrate the social and economic divide between the upper and lower towns, it should be avoided on Sundays and in the evenings.

Very practical connect the commercio (and the bus terminal da França) to the praça da Sé. 15 centavos travel.
With real saying, it is a funicular. I find more interesting than Lacerda elevator because you can appreciate the landscape while you descend. A left you can see fruit trees (guava tree, banana tree, avocado tree, jaquier) next right, some restored colonial buildings.
