Small town belonging to the district of Petrópolis, located about 30 km north of the imperial city, at an altitude of about 1500 meters. The small winding road that leads there offers an endless list of high quality mountain hotels. Here you can rest from the madness of the city and enjoy the fresh air of the region (it can be freezing in winter). The Cariocas also like to come here for a good meal during the day. Itaipava is home to some of the best restaurants in the state of Rio, if not in all of Brazil. Many Brazilian movies and novelas are filmed here
