An artistic, cultural and historical heritage of the city of Rio de Janeiro, inspired by Lisbon's public promenade.

This square was inspired by the public promenade of Lisbon, inaugurated in the 1760s. The Viceroy of the State of Brazil, Luís de Vasconcelos e Sousa, between 1779 and 1783, commissioned the sculptor and architect Valentim da Fonseca e Silva ("Mestre Valentim") to build a park for the city of Rio. It was completely renovated between 2016 and 2017. Excavations have uncovered remains of the "theater-casino". These developments have allowed to value this artistic and cultural and historical heritage of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
