ARCOS DA LAPA
Aqueduct with white arches, 1.7 km long, where the tramway runs from the center to Santa Teresa
Built in 1744, this aqueduct is one of Rio's main spatial landmarks. The setting is a typical example of the city's architectural "fusion", blending the modernism of the Petrobras headquarters with the futurism of the São Sebastião Metropolitan Cathedral. The white arches of the aqueduct and the esplanade in front of it form a veritable cinema set. It's over this arch that the tramway(bonde) runs from the center to Santa Teresa. A 1.7 km section has been reopened as far as Largo do Guimarães. The area is unsafe, even during the day.
