Flamboyant Gothic church, one of the most beautiful in the region.
Built of granite, the church is in the Flamboyant Gothic style. The dates of its construction (1471-1518) are engraved on the lintel of the south portal, which is the most richly decorated. The building is one of the most beautiful churches in the region. On the façade, the upper part of the tower dates from the Renaissance period. Inside, an impression of verticality predominates. A curiosity: during Holy Week, the bells do not ring. In Ambert, the coraire, from the top of the terrace, uses his megaphone to call the faithful to the services of Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

L’extérieur, avec son style gothique et ses belles pierres, invite déjà à la contemplation. Une fois à l’intérieur, on est tout de suite frappé par la beauté des vitraux et la grandeur de la nef, qui créent une atmosphère paisible et propice à la méditation. L’église est parfaitement entretenue, ce qui permet de profiter pleinement de sa splendeur, que l’on soit croyant ou simplement amateur de patrimoine.
Les bénévoles et responsables sur place sont très accueillants et toujours disponibles pour partager des informations intéressantes sur l’histoire du bâtiment et ses particularités. Les offices y sont célébrés avec une grande dévotion et sont des moments de recueillement très appréciés par la communauté.
Que l'on vienne pour prier, se recueillir, ou admirer l'architecture et les œuvres d'art, l’église Saint-Jean est une étape incontournable à Ambert, et je la recommande sans hésitation à tous ceux qui visitent la région.
