Hatun Xauxa (from the Quechua Hatun, large, and Xauxa, referring to the Xauxa ethnic group) is an archaeological site located 20 km from Jauja. This Inca administrative center, built under Huayna Cápac according to the plans used for Cusco, radiated over the Mantaro valley. It is difficult to estimate the real extent and magnitude of the constructions since it was systematically dismantled during the centuries after the Inca Empire. The village of Sausa covers the ruins and what remains of them. Today, we go there to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.
