Jauja was the second town built by Spaniards in Peru on 25 April 1534 (under the name «Santa Fe de Hatun Xauxa»), and Pizarro temporarily made its capital. From this past, it keeps its narrow streets, some give in Adobe with pastel colors, but is now little more than a province town of 15 000 inhabitants. This small town is noisy in the popular and rather sad neighborhoods in the historic centre where very few original facades remain in place.Jauja is on holiday every Wednesday and Sunday on the occasion of his droning market.
