CERRO SAN CRISTÓBAL
These colorful facades on the other side of the Rímac immediately catch the eye. This is a pueblo joven (shantytown), where the precarious houses are made ofadobe. At the summit, 400 metres above sea level, the 26-metre-high Miracle Cross dominates the capital and is the culmination of a pilgrimage celebrated during Holy Week. A museum traces the city's expansion since 1915. In July 2017, a tourist minibus lost control and plunged into the void. Result: 9 deaths. Cab required. We strongly advise against exploring the district on foot.
