The municipality continues to promote Nossa Terra through the "Velas, Capital do Queijo" brand, registered and patented in 2018. It is one of the promoters of this excellent product, Queijo de São Jorge - DOP, with over 500 years of experience. Very active in promoting the municipality nationally and internationally, the town strongly values its history and traditions, as well as the gastronomy and natural sites of the island of São Jorge, including the emblematic Fajãs Biosphere Reserves.
