Hotel with a nice pool, offering decorated rooms with a view of the pool and the beach from the balconies

Located in the heart of South Beach, this superbly restored hotel has retained its historic character. The 250 rooms are tastefully decorated in a European, mid-20th century, vintage style with just the right amount of character. The view of the pool and the beach from the balconies is beautiful, day and night. Special mention for the magnificent lobby bar with its subdued Roaring Twenties atmosphere and its DJ sets. The plus is the pretty pool set in a tropical garden with a beautiful bamboo tunnel that leads directly to the beach, a 5-minute walk away.

Almost there but not quite. Location is great but unfortunately (at the time of this stay and review), smack in the middle of adjacent construction projects. Beach and wait staff were very attentive and great. One elevator was broken all 5 days of the stay. Tons of great restaurant options within walking distance of the hotel and generally felt safe (with 3 kids in tow).

On a bloqué nos cartes.

I stayed at this hotel three times. While my first two experiences were delightful, there has been a noticeable decline in quality since its ownership shifted to Sonesta.

The value does not match the price tag of $500 per night. Guests should rightfully expect a high end service at such a rate.

Here are the issues I encountered:

Room Maintenance: The rooms are poorly maintained, with towels bearing makeup stains, visible wear and tear on furniture, and the use of cheap furnishings.
Noise: Construction noise from both sides of the hotel early in the morning. The walls are thin, allowing guests to hear adjacent rooms.
Overcrowding: The pool and beach areas resemble a cheap Las Vegas pool party venue. On top of this, there was a wedding taking place in the hotel which is already overcrowded.
Pool Area: Pool area ran out of towels for guests many times

It's evident that the hotel is understaffed, which is ultimately a management failure. The blame cannot be placed on the hardworking staff who are doing their best under these circumstances.

This hotel is right on the beachfront so if you plan on just staying at the hotel and doing the room- pool - beach - it’s ideal. Love the menu - food is amazing. We stayed only for a day but the front desk rep was so kind, helpful and always smiling even with the array of people lined up to be attended to. The only issue I experienced was that’s it’s a pretty big hotel with two small elevators and with peak season only one was working- the wait times going up and down were annoying. The other insignificant issue was that during lunch I didn’t order a specific item which I had asked the waiter to remove but he didn’t make a proper note of it I guess - I didn’t send it back and still paid for it, as it’s a simple human error. However, they need to make sure they repeat the order while taking it down and I think the language barrier could have been the crux.
The rooms are very clean and spic and span, though no ventilation in the right squeeze of a washroom.
