Practical information : Take a break Miami
Timetable
Food shops and cafés are generally open from morning to late afternoon. Most offer a small lunch menu. Bars generally open at 10 or 11am and close at 2am.
Budget & Tips
In the USA, tipping is a common and often expected practice. In restaurants and bars, you should leave between 15 and 20% of the bill. Check whether service is included before adding an extra tip. This is often the case in very touristy areas. It's a good idea to always carry some cash for cash tips, especially in hotels and for small services.
Age restrictions
In Florida, the consumption of alcohol is restricted to people aged 21 and over. Establishments require identification before serving alcohol. Make sure you have your passport with you, as it may be needed to prove your age. Without a valid document, you will not be able to order or consume alcoholic beverages.
What's very local
We recommend happy hours in bars, where you can find cocktails for under US$10, accompanied by plates to share at reduced prices. Happy hours are often held on weekdays only. Enjoy a café cubano(cafecito), a full-bodied, sweet espresso served in the famous ventanitas, the small windows typical of Cuban cafés. And for a refreshing drink, nothing beats a mojito, an emblematic cocktail made with rum, fresh mint, lime, sugar and sparkling water - a must in sunny Miami.
Kids
Children are allowed to enter a bar with their parents if the bar also serves as a restaurant. After 9pm, entry may be refused.
